CSN’s operations, particularly in the steel, mining, and cement businesses, generate emissions of particulate matter, NOx, and SOx, which are monitored and controlled through the Company’s Environmental Management System to minimize environmental impacts and comply with regulatory requirements established by environmental licensing authorities. At Presidente Vargas Steelworks (UPV), CSN’s main steel plant located in Volta Redonda, Rio de Janeiro, the Company is investing BRL 750 million in the modernization of particulate control systems at its sintering plants, including the replacement and upgrade of equipment. Implementation is expected to be completed by 2026.

Monitoring Networks
Presidente Vargas Steelworks conducts real-time emissions and air-quality monitoring through a network of nine monitoring stations located throughout Volta Redonda. To prevent dust dispersion, the plant applies polymers to stockpiles and uses fog cannons to reduce airborne particulate matter.
In the mining segment, CSN Mineração controls dust emissions through water spraying on haul roads using water trucks and fixed sprinkler systems, tire-washing facilities, and techniques such as hydroseeding. Mining operations may also be suspended under adverse weather conditions to minimize environmental impacts.
In the cement business, CSN has invested in the modernization of filters and electrostatic precipitators. At the same time, the Company has expanded the use of alternative fuels through co-processing, contributing to improved environmental performance and emissions management.
