March 11, 2022
Former swimmer Thiago Pereira inaugurated in October, at the Municipal Water Park of Volta Redonda, his social swimming project sponsored by CSN. The London 2012 Olympic medalist was in his hometown and interacted with some students.
Classes began in August of this project year, serving 280 children and adolescents aged 7 to 17 years, 70% of whom are students from the Volta Redonda network.
“I am living a dream of opening this social project here in my hometown, where it all began. I just want to thank the city hall, Fundação CSN, CSN and all the partners that are with us in this project for their support. That we develop not only the learning of swimming, but the sport as a tool for education and health”, said Thiago Pereira.
Official sponsor of “Swimming with Thiago Pereira”, CSN and Fundação CSN also participated in the official launch of the project, through the presence of the executive director of Siderurgia CSN, Milton Picinini, and André Leonardi, manager of the CSN Foundation.
“There is even a very strong dose of emotion here, for being at this launch of such an important project, of a very large social nature and which CSN is very happy to be participating. Swimming is one of the sports in which engagement, determination and determination are fundamental. When we determine to unite them, we certainly make champions. And if they are not these champions, they will certainly be better people, which is also a very important point of the project”, said Picinini.
Leonardi also spoke about the importance of the project not within the scope of sports and in the fight against drowning, but also in the education of children and adolescents.
“Sport can also be much more fulfilling than just learning to defend yourself (drowning). It can be an exceptional path for life, as well as Culture, Education and all these areas. We are very happy to, once again, be at the side of the Volta Redonda City Hall and also for this partnership with Thiago Pereira”, he said.
