August 29, 2024
Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) is responsible for creating one in every four formal jobs in Volta Redonda (registered employment), offering salaries and benefits that exceed the average. In the municipality, CSN generates more than 20,000 direct jobs, not counting indirect jobs.
In addition to direct job creation, CSN contributes significantly to municipal revenue, accounting for more than 60% of Volta Redonda’s taxes. CSN was also instrumental in transforming the southern region of Rio de Janeiro into a metalworking hub, which continues to grow and generate more and more jobs.
The jobs generated by CSN extend throughout the southern region of Rio de Janeiro state through its various industries, including Usina Presidente Vargas, CSN Porto Real, CSN Cimentos, Prada Resende, Prada Valença, CBS, CBSI, and Fundação CSN. Of the more than 40,000 jobs generated by the CSN group in Brazil and worldwide, more than half are concentrated in this region.
By June of this year, CSN had filled more than 600 operational positions and plans to open another 400 positions by the end of 2024. For the maintenance and modernization works of the three sintering plants at the Presidente Vargas Plant, more than 1,000 workers were hired and continue to work on the projects. These renovations target areas where black dust is emitted, reducing emissions.
In the Capacitar, Incluir para PCDs (People with Disabilities), Jovem Aprendiz (Young Apprentice), and technical and higher education internship programs, more than 500 positions are being offered.
In addition to opportunities within the company, the CSN Foundation carries out various social and cultural projects, such as Capacitar Hotelaria e Serviços (Training in Hospitality and Services), Projeto Garoto Cidadão (Citizen Boy Project), Mentoria Cidadã (Citizen Mentoring), Polo de Street Art (Street Art Hub), Tambores de Aço (Steel Drums), Programa de Educação Ambiental (Environmental Education Program), and scholarships for music, theater, and studies, among others.
CSN also sponsors important events and initiatives, such as the Volta Redonda Book Biennial, the Nadando com Tiago Pereira Project, the Volta Redonda Philharmonic Orchestra, and programs aimed at people over 60, such as “Os Bailes da Vida” and “Resgatando Saberes,” among others.
