CSN launches program to accelerate environmental, social, and governance initiatives

CSN has just launched CSN Conecta, a program that encourages its employees to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) challenges. The initiative seeks projects that generate positive impacts for the company and the community, focusing on water and effluent management, energy efficiency, waste reduction, atmospheric emissions control, diversity and inclusion, biodiversity preservation, health and safety, and digital transformation.

Selected projects may receive investments of up to R$ 400,000 for implementation within CSN’s units, including the Presidente Vargas Plant in Volta Redonda. These initiatives are expected to contribute to making the operation more sustainable, in addition to generating benefits for the cities where the company operates.

Applications can be submitted until April 10, 2025. Each team, composed of up to four employees, must appoint a representative responsible for completing the online form detailing the challenge and the proposed solution. An organizing committee, together with unit managers, will then conduct a preliminary assessment to verify the technical feasibility and alignment of the proposal with the program’s objectives.

Approved projects will move on to the video presentation phase, where teams will have the opportunity to present their ideas clearly and objectively. After this stage, ESG experts will conduct a technical analysis to select the initiatives that will be presented to CSN’s board of directors and evaluation committee, who will decide which solutions will receive support for implementation.

The evaluation criteria include environmental and social impact, innovation, scalability, financial return, originality, and contribution to CSN’s reputation. The quality of the presentation will also be considered in the selection process. Before final approval, the projects will undergo a validation conference and may be reevaluated or eliminated if there are significant changes.
