CSN Mineração reinforces measures to control particulate matter

CSN Mineração has continuously improved its various measures to control particulate matter. These include: a fixed sprinkler system at the mine and plant, mobile sprinkling with tanker trucks, the application of polymers and nylon screens on pit slopes, the application of laterite on product piles, and revegetation by hydroseeding on waste rock and tailings piles. These techniques will be expanded and applied in the Fraile Expansion Project – Phases 3 and 4.

As an example, this year alone, 17 new water trucks were purchased, doubling the sprinkling capacity of the existing fleet. In addition, an innovative sprinkling system using drones is also being tested. Another highlight is a technology that will allow the Company to predict, through temperature and wind analysis, which areas are most likely to emit particulate matter, enabling even more agile preventive action by the Company. In total, by 2024, protection is planned for more than 440 hectares with actions to protect pit slopes and piles.
