November 25, 2024
Through the Crescer – Juntos com a Comunidade (Growing Together with the Community) Program, CSN Cimentos carried out volunteer efforts between October and early November, mobilizing employees and third parties in a series of actions aimed at the well-being of local communities. With the support of volunteer facilitators, the initiatives promoted the company’s commitment to social responsibility and ESG practices, generating a positive impact in the regions where it operates.
Each location developed specific activities to meet the needs of the community. In Alhandra, students from the Cruz do Cabloco School were taken on a visit to the João Pessoa Zoobotanical Park. At the Arcos unit, volunteers organized a special event for Children’s Day in the Boca da Mata Community and participated in painting a mural in the Corumbá Community. In Barroso, activities included guided tours of the Water Treatment Plant (WTP), a career fair, and “Transitolândia,” where educational activities for children were held.
The Caaporã unit promoted the cleaning and collection of solid waste at Fonte Mangueirinha, in Acaú, in addition to planting Atlantic Forest seedlings, reinforcing CSN Cimentos’ environmental commitment. In Montes Claros, volunteers contributed to the construction of the floor of the São Lourenço Community Association, while in Pedro Leopoldo, they organized a series of recreational and care activities for the elderly at LAIITE – Lar para Idosos Irmã Tereza (Sister Tereza Home for the Elderly), including walking, music, manicures, games, and cooking.
In Candeias, employees held bingo, dancing, and moments of interaction with the elderly at the São Gabriel Para Idosos de Deus shelter. In Cocalzinho, they promoted a conversation circle and snack at the José da Trindade Curado nursing home in Corumbá de Goiás. In Sorocaba, kits were distributed and games were played with the children of the Bom Jesus neighborhood.
The Marechal Hermes Terminal and CSN Cimentos offices in Rio de Janeiro participated by revitalizing the vegetable garden and painting the flower beds at the Fernão Dias Municipal Preschool. In addition, they planted a new vegetable garden together with the students, reinforcing environmental learning and care for the school grounds.
At the Verbo Divino office, volunteers visited an institution for children in adoption or in legal proceedings, where they organized a picnic, delivered toys and painting materials, promoting a moment of joy and care for the children.
Tatiana Nogueira, responsible for managing the program, commented on the impact of the initiative. “The volunteer program is an important tool for the company’s social management. It supports the maintenance of the internal climate, ensuring a better understanding of the company’s social practices among participants and generating greater engagement with the topic, in addition to enabling greater engagement with surrounding communities,” says Tatiana.
At the end of the activities, 22 institutions and 1,054 people benefited; the activities involved 260 volunteers and 939 hours of volunteer work, which shows the commitment of the units and teams.
With these activities, CSN Cimentos reinforces its role as a transformative agent in the communities where it operates, while strengthening the organizational climate and promoting synergy among its employees. Volunteer Month is proof of the company’s commitment to building a more sustainable future, expanding its social license to operate and strengthening ties with society.
