Monitoring of CSN Mineração dams: technology at the service of safety Environmental Education Program (PEA) In 2022, CSN launched the Environmental Education Program (PEA) in Volta Redonda, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, in partnership with the local City Hall, through the Departments of Education and Environment. The program is run by the CSN Foundation and serves 23 public schools, aiming to raise awareness among students, teachers, and the community in general about the importance of sustainability. Through workshops, lectures, and practical activities, the PEA promotes the balanced integration of the various dimensions of sustainability (environmental, social, ethical, cultural, economic, spatial, and political) in development, seeking to contribute to improving the quality of life of the population.

Regular inspections and safety criteria
Dam safety is a priority for the company. To ensure compliance with ANM Resolution No. 95/2022, periodic inspections are carried out according to the complexity of the structure. In addition to these regular inspections, the Company conducts biweekly surveys of all structures. During these activities, specialized technicians use high-precision instruments such as piezometers, inclinometers, flow meters, geophones and water level indicators to thoroughly assess the integrity of the dams. In addition to visual inspections, automated instrument readings are taken every hour, as well as data analysis to ensure that everything complies with safety standards. In the event of extreme events, such as heavy rains, the frequency of inspections is increased to ensure safety.
Emergency plans: prevention, training and communication
The Emergency Action Plans for Mining Dams (PAEBM) are rigorously tested through practical and theoretical simulations involving company employees and local authorities. The communication flow outlined in the plan is constantly evaluated and adjusted to ensure agility and efficiency in emergency situations.
CSN Mineração prioritizes transparency and communication with authorities and the community. Regular testing of the notification flow and simulations promote effective alignment to deal with alert scenarios. These trainings help ensure that everyone involved knows their roles and responsibilities, minimizing risks in the event of adverse events.
