CSN is one of the few Brazilian companies that have integrated logistics (road, rail, port), providing coverage to its operations across the country.
The transportation of CSN’s raw materials and products corresponds to about 10% of all railway activity in Brazil.
CSN operates two terminals at the Port of Itaguaí, in Rio de Janeiro: the bulk solids terminal (Tecar) and the container terminal (Sepetiba Tecon)Tecar has the capacity to export 45 million tons of iron ore per year and it is where coke and coal used in the from the steelmaking process. Sepetiba Tecon is a load hub port (Hub Port), the largest container terminal in Rio de Janeiro and one of the largest in Brazil in its segment.
In the railway sector, the Company has shares in MRS Logística, on the Minas Gerais – Rio de Janeiro – São Paulo axis, providing services to heavy haul (ore, coal and coke cargo) and general cargo customers (cement and clinker). It also controls FTL (Ferrovia Transnordestina Logística – Transnordestina Railway Logistics), the former Northeast Network of RFFSA, and Transnordestina Logística S.A. (TLSA), which will connect the deep inland regions of Piauí to the ports of Pecém (CE) and Suape (PE).
Transnordestina Railway crosses one of the most cultural enriching and challenging regions in Brasil: the Northeastern “Sertão”.
