    September 11, 2023

The Port of Itaguaí, the head of our Sepetiba Tecon and Tecar terminals, was the 1st place in the ANTAQ Award 2022 in the category “Highest Annual Evolution of the Environmental Performance Index”. The award, promoted by the National Waterway Transport Agency (ANTAQ), aims to recognize shipping companies and port facilities that promote social and environmental initiatives to improve the demands of society and increase efficiency and sustainability. In addition, it aims to stimulate actions related to the operation and management of the sector and to promote research and technical-scientific production.

The Environmental Performance Index (IDA) was implemented by ANTAQ in 2012 and is composed of 38 indicators related to legal compliance and good practices in environmental management, health and safety of operations, being a reference in the Brazilian waterway sector. Among the indicators evaluated by the IDA are the situation of the environmental license and the existence of an operating license, quantity and quality of technicians in the environmental center, risk prevention, environmental audit, action of removal of ship waste, consumption and efficiency in energy use, monitoring of fauna and flora and health contingency plans.

For Companhia Docas do Rio de Janeiro (CDRJ), administrator of the Port of Itaguaí, the participation of Sepetiba Tecon and Tecar in meeting the standards established as a reference in the area of environmental sustainability was fundamental to the achievement of this award.

About the ANTAQ Award: Created in 2016, the event reinforces the Agency’s commitment to valuing the waterway mode and stimulating the production and dissemination of knowledge in favor of the development of one of the most important segments for the economic growth of the country and the Brazilian waterway sector.
It is important to highlight that the awarded initiatives meet the requirements of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as the ESG criteria (environmental, social and governance).
